ทวีปยุโรปนับว่ามีความเจริญก้าวหน้าทางด้านอุตสาหกรรมมาตั้งแต่คริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 18 และมีความสามารถในการผลิตสินค้าได้เกือบทุกชนิดโดยเฉพาะสินค้าเทคโนโลยีและเครื่องจักรกลต่าง ๆ เราจะเห็นได้จากแหล่งอุตสาหกรรมที่สำคัญของยุโรป เช่นที่เมืองแมนเชสเตอร์ (Manchester) แหล่งผลิตเครื่องจักรกลและยานพาหนะแคว้นอัลซาส-ลอร์เรน (Alsace-Lorraine) ซึ่งเป็นแหล่งผลิตเหล็กในประเทศฝรั่งเศส หรือจะเป็นที่เมืองท่าในประเทศเยอรมนี ที่มีอุตสาหกรรมการต่อเรือและเครื่องจักรกลต่าง ๆ เป็นต้น
