กาแฟไม่ได้เป็นเป็นเพียงเครื่องดื่ม แต่คือผืนผ้าที่ถูกถักทอขึ้นจากวัฒนธรรมที่เต็มไปด้วยความหลากหลาย
บนโลกนี้คงไม่มีใครไม่รู้จัก “กาแฟ” เครื่องดื่มที่ได้รับความนิยมทั่วโลกมาอย่างยาวนาน ด้วยกลิ่นหอมอันเป็นเอกลักษณ์ และคุณสมบัติพิเศษอย่างคาเฟอีน จึงทำให้ใครหลายคนปฏิเสธไม่ได้เลยว่ากาแฟเป็นสิ่งจำเป็นที่ต้องดื่มในทุก ๆ เช้า เพื่อให้การเริ่มต้นวันใหม่เป็นไปอย่างราบรื่น แต่นอกจากความอร่อย และกลิ่นที่หอมหวานอบอวลแล้ว ผลเชอร์รี่สีแดงผลนี้ก็มีเรื่องราวมากมายที่น่าสนใจซ่อนอยู่เบื้องหลัง ซึ่งเป็นเรื่องราวที่ทีมงานนิตยสาร Coffee Traveler ได้พบเจอในระหว่างการเดินทางเพื่อเข้าร่วมงาน Thailand Coffee Fest ‘Year End’ 2023 เมื่อวันที่ 14 - 17 ธันวาคม ณ ศูนย์การประชุมแห่งชาติสิริกิติ์ที่ผ่านมา โดยภายในงานนอกจากจะมีบูธเพื่อแสดงสินค้า และอุปกรณ์สำหรับกาแฟแล้ว ยังมีไฮไลท์อย่างการแข่งขันเพื่อชิงการเป็นเจ้าแห่งการคั่ว
อย่างงานแข่ง Professional Coffee Roaster Championship หรือ PCRIC ที่เต็มไปด้วยผู้เข้าร่วมมากมายจากทั้งไทยและต่างประเทศ และที่นั้น เราก็มีโอกาสได้พูดคุยกับ 3 ผู้เข้าแข่งขัน จากสามประเทศที่แตกต่าง ที่ได้นำกลิ่นอายเฉพาะตัวของแต่ละประเทศมาร่วมประชันกันในงานนี้
ในระหว่างการสนทนากับผู้เข้าแข่งขันทั้งสาม ทีมงานได้สังเกตเห็นอย่างชัดเจนว่าบุคลิกภาพและความคิดของพวกเขา มีความแตกต่างและหลากหลายพอ ๆ กับเทคนิคการคั่วเมล็ดกาแฟที่พวกเขาเชี่ยวชาญ ผู้เข้าแข่งขันแต่ละคนได้นำมุมมอง และประสบการณ์ที่แตกต่างมาใช้ในการแข่ง ทางทีมงานจึงมองเห็นโอกาสอันน่าสนใจที่จะสามารถคลี่คลายความเชื่อมโยงที่ซับซ้อนระหว่างบุคลิกภาพ และความคิดของแต่ละบุคคล กับภูมิหลังทางวัฒนธรรมกาแฟของแต่ละประเทศ โดยมีจุดมุงหมายเพื่อศึกษาเส้นทางของวัฒนธรรมกาแฟที่หลากหลายเหล่านี้ผ่านตัวผู้คั่วกาแฟทั้งสามท่าน เพื่อเปิดเผยถึงที่มาของรสชาติอันเป็นเอกลักษณ์ ประวัติศาสตร์ และอิทธิพลทางสังคมที่อาจเป็นตัวกำหนดทิศทางของวัฒนธรรมกาแฟต่อไป
Coffee transcends being merely a beverage: it represents a rich tapestry intricately woven with the threads of a culture teeming with diversity.
Almost everyone worldwide is familiar with “coffee”, a globally cherished beverage renowned for its unique aroma and caffeine - induced properties. Acknowledged as an indispensable morning ritual by many, coffee not only delights the senses with its deliciousness and sweet fragrance but also conceals captivating narratives with in its origins. One such tale unfolded during the Coffee Traveler magazine team’s journey to the Thailand Coffee Fest ‘Year End’ 2023, held from December 14 to 17 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. The event showcased not only booths exhibiting diverse coffee products and equipment but also captivating competitions like the Professional Coffee Roaster Championship (PCRIC), where skilled contenders from Thailand and beyond vied for the coveted title. Amidst this spirited atmosphere, we had the privilege of engaging in conversations with three contestants hailing from different countries, each bringing forth the unique flavors of their homelands to compete in this prestigious event.
While engaging in discussions with the three contestants, the team astutely observed the distinct personalities and ideas each participant. Much like the varied coffee roasting techniques they specialize in, these individuals exhibited a remarkable diversity. Each participant contributed a distinctive viewpoint and background to the competition. Recognizing this, the team discerned a fascinating opportunity to delve into the intricate interplay between an individual’s personality and mindset, intertwined with the coffee cultural backgrounds of their respective countries. The overarching goal is to explore the trajectories of these diverse coffee cultures, using the unique approaches of the three coffee roasters as a lens. This exploration seeks to unveil the origins of each coffee’s distinctive flavor, and examining the historical and social influences that may significantly shape the future direction of coffee culture.
