The coffee industry is a vital economic driver in many developing countries. According to the International Coffee Organization, coffee is one of the most widely consumed commodities, with

over 2 billion cups consumed daily. Consequently, coffee production and processing play a significant role in the economies of numerous nations, providing employment and income to millions of people. However, the industry faces several challenges due to climate change, which impacts the quality and quantity of coffee produced. Variations in temperature, rainfall, and extreme weather conditions directly affect the growth and development of coffee crops. These climatic changes influence the yield, quality, and taste of coffee beans and lead to an increase in pests and diseases that can devastate coffee plants. In addition, extreme weather conditions such as droughts, floods, and storms can damage coffee plants and disrupt the supply chain, leading to price and market fluctuations. As climate change persists, these challenges are likely to intensify, significantly impacting the livelihoods of farmers and the global coffee industry. Millions of people who depend on coffee for income and trade could be affected. Consequently, the coffee industry must adapt to these changing conditions to maintain the quality and sustainability of its products. Coffee producers are employing various strategies to cope with these challenges, such as improving irrigation systems, growing coffee under the shade of trees, and developing new coffee varieties that are more resilient to climate change. However, these strategies are not always effective or accessible to all producers, particularly small-scale farmers who often lack the necessary resources or infrastructure. These small producers, despite their limitations, account for the highest volume of coffee production in the industry.
