ใครก็ตามที่ได้คลุกคลีอยู่ในโลกของกาแฟ น่าจะทราบกันดีว่า การพัฒนาในวงการกาแฟทั่วโลกนั้นก้าวหน้าอย่างรวดเร็วในทุก ๆ ด้าน และผู้คนต่างก็ตื่นตัวที่จะทำความรู้จักกับโลกของกาแฟกันมากขึ้น ดังจะเห็นได้จากร้านกาแฟอินดี้มากมายที่เกิดขึ้นจากความรักและความหลงใหลในรสชาติของกาแฟ ผู้ผลิตเมล็ดกาแฟคุณภาพที่ต่างเปิดตัวให้สังคมโลกได้รู้จักมากขึ้นสมาคมต่าง ๆ ที่เกิดจากการรวมกลุ่มของคนรักกาแฟก็เกิดขึ้นทั่วโลก อย่างเช่น สมาคมกาแฟพิเศษแห่งอเมริกา หรือ Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) สมาคมกาแฟพิเศษที่ก่อตั้งขึ้นเพื่อพัฒนาและรักษามาตรฐานของกาแฟในทุก ๆ กระบวนการเพื่อให้ได้กาแฟที่มีคุณภาพดีเยี่ยม โดยในประเทศไทยเราเองก็มีหน่วยงานเช่นนี้อยู่เช่นกัน ภายใต้ชื่อ Specialty Coffee Association of Thailand (SCATH) หรือสมาคมกาแฟพิเศษไทยที่ได้ร่วมกันจัดตั้งเพื่อพัฒนาคุณภาพกาแฟในบ้านเรา
นอกจากนี้ยังมีเวทีน้อยใหญ่ที่จัดการแข่งขันเกี่ยวกับกาแฟซึ่งมีให้เห็นตลอดทั้งปี และการแข่งขันที่คนกาแฟทั่วโลกต่างก็ให้ความสนใจคงจะหนีไม่พ้นเวทีการแข่งขัน World Barista Championship (WBC) ซึ่งในปีล่าสุดนั้น (2015) ได้จัดขึ้นที่เมืองซีแอตเทิล สหรัฐอเมริกา โดย Sasa Sestic บาริสต้าชาวออสเตรเลียเป็นผู้คว้าตำแหน่งชนะแชมป์จากเวทีระดับโลกนี้ไปครอง
เราต่างก็ไม่ได้มีความสามารถในการชงกาแฟให้อร่อยถูกใจทุกคนได้แม้ว่าปัจจุบันจะมีเครื่องชงกาแฟแบบอัตโนมัติที่สามารถตั้งค่าได้ทุกอย่าง เพราะการชงกาแฟแก้วหนึ่งนั้น ต้องอาศัยศิลปะและความเข้าใจ จึงจำเป็นต้องมีตำแหน่ง “บาริสต้า” เกิดขึ้น และบาริสต้าที่ได้รับรางวัลการันตีจากเวทีการแข่งขันระดับโลก บาริสต้าที่ได้ชื่อว่าเป็นที่ 1 ของโลกนั้น จะมีความพิเศษในตัวเองมากขนาดไหนวันนี้เราจะมาทำความรู้จักกับเขากัน

There are also many small coffee competitions set up in the event about the coffee throughout the year. And competitive coffee people around the world are paying attention would be the World Barista Championship (WBC), which in recent years (2015) was held in Seattle, USA. "Sasa Sestic" an Australian barista was crowned the winner of this global championship. We do not have the ability to make everyone likes coffee. Fortunately, we, Coffee Traveler team had a chance to follow this lovely champion to many places such as the coffee plantation of Mount Dao at Chiang Dao and Nine one coffee at Doi Saket to visit Thailand's coffee production.
